How has the I-83 bridge work over Route 30 affected traffic?

Today will mark a week since the closure of the ramp from Interstate 83 South to Route 30 East.

The ramp had to be closed because of its close proximity to the I-83 bridge, which is being rehabilitated, according to the state Department of Transportation.

One of my colleagues noted that on the first day after the ramp closed, traffic was backing up onto the highway at the Market Street exit (Exit 19). And anyone familiar with this interchange knows how dangerous it is trying to get on and off of these extremely short ramps.

Perhaps drivers missed the detour route — the North George Street exit (Exit 22) — and got off at the next open exit, which is Market Street.

My colleague said he hasn’t noticed that problem since the first day. But he has noticed traffic backing up to get on I-83 South from Route 30 East during the afternoon rush. That’s because traffic has to stop at a stop sign before merging onto the highway.

Have you noticed any problems with the closure of the ramp or the bridge work that’s being done?
